Amuse Bouche
We started with the amuse bouche, which literally translates to “It amuses the mouth” we had the Japanese oysters from Hyogo ( RM59 for 3 pieces), Japan, paired with Jean Vesselle, Extra Brut Champagne. Truly amusing to our mouth, the oysters were meaty, plump, silky smooth have a strong sweet finish combined with creamy note.
Cold starters
We particularly enjoyed the Prawn Cocktail (RM59). At first glance, it seems quite ordinary, but the layer of fresh prawn, tomato puree, avocado, and lettuce, topped with an exquisite dressing, is effortlessly impressive and refreshing.
The Foie Gras (RM69) on the other hand has nothing to scream about, has no fault either. Smooth, supple and firm to the touch.
We were given the Simon-Bize & Fils to pair with the cold starters, and it definitely deserves a special mention. This white wine from Bourgogne, France, made from Chardonnay, has a remarkably smooth and rich buttery finish. It was so delicious that we couldn’t stop talking about it for days after the meal, wondering how such a flavor was achieved. After a bit of research, we discovered it’s the result of malolactic fermentation and oak aging. In short, this will now be our go-to bottle of Chadonnay for celebrating life’s special moments.
Hot Starters
French onion soup (RM38) with emmantal toast, escargots with garlic butter (RM39). The snails are traditionally cooked in a classic French garlic-parsley butter, baked to perfection, the butter melts and infuses the snails with its rich, garlicky goodness.
Mains
Grilled Australian Wagyu Beef Sirloin and Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye with Vigneron Butter (RM220). While the grilled black angus (200gms – RM154 / 300gms – RM224 & / 500gms – RM290) is certainly flavorful on its own and perfectly cooked to our liking, four sauces are offered for added flair: Dijon mustard, wholegrain mustard, homemade mayonnaise, and Béarnaise sauce. It is also served with a generous amount of homemade fries enough to drown us in happiness. The grilled Australian wagyu beef sirloin is however a little rarer than what we prefer but nevertheless nicely seasoned.
Desserts
It’s certainly not every day that we get to watch a dessert chef skillfully flambé a Crêpe Suzette (RM84) at our table, which was quite entertaining to watch! The delicate crepes was drizzled with rich orange sauce and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Did you know ? The classic Crepe Suzette was created out of a mistake made by a 14 year old assistant waiter Henry Carpentier (1880–1961) in 1895 at the Maitre at Monte Carlo’s Cafdé Paris while preparing a dessert for the prince of Wales, the future king Edward 7th, (1841-1910) of England , where The cordials caught fire by accident in a chafting dish which turns out to be surprisingly delicious.
Crème brulee (RM28) was outstanding with the creamiest custard and golden, crunchy caramelized sugar.
